Susan G. Komen for the Cure
State of Breast Cancer Report

This first-ever State of Breast Cancer report is guided by the simple truth
that has inspired Susan G. Komen for the Cure for the past 25 years: Every one
of us has the opportunity — in fact, the responsibility — to help
save lives today and, ultimately, end this disease forever.
This report is both inspiring and shocking. You'll be inspired by the great strides
in diagnosis, treatment and research that have turned millions of breast cancer
patients into breast cancer survivors. At the same time, you'll be shocked that
so many people — especially racial and ethnic minorities and those with
little or no health insurance — continue to die needlessly from this disease
simply because they cannot afford or access quality care.
In this sense, you're not holding just another report — you're holding
a road map, a detailed plan for action. Read it. Mark it up. Carry it with you.
Show it to family and friends. Let it be your guide. Whether you're a patient
or medical professional, a survivor or a scientist, an advocate or elected official,
you'll find at the end of each chapter a section called
"What Can I Do?" listing the specific actions you can take to
save lives and bring us closer to the cures.
